Most of my album buying experiences as a young lad in the late 60s/early 70s were at Sears or Kmart. In the latter years (mid-to-late 70s), some were purchased at shopping mall record stores.

@V. T. Eric Layton KMart was my first record store, too! It was in my neighborhood, I could cycle over there. Didn't have much spending money at the time, so I don't think I bought much, but sometimes I'd just go to see what was new and pick up those top 30 charts they put out every week. Good times!

HAHA! Same for me... the Kmart was about a 1/2 mile from my house; a short bike ride. Money... heh! Yeah, I had to mow two or three lawns in the neighborhood and collect soda bottles for the deposits just to get maybe $10. Good thing the albums weren't that expensive back then, huh? :)

Yeah, and concert tickets were MUCH more affordable. I was 11 years old when I went to my first concert, it was Gary Numan, I was in the 11th row and tickets were $11! Even a kid could afford a concert ticket. That's unimaginable today!

I was so close to the very loud Tampa Stadium back in those days, that we'd put coolers and porch furniture up on the roof of my carport and sit there an enjoy the concerts (Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, etc.) for free. I also used to help park cars (at a friend's mother's property across from the stadium) for many of those BIG concerts.

I was actually there the night of the '77 Led Zeppelin riot.

Sounds like you had the best seats in the house, and free! I didn't hear about that Led Zep riot, tho. I guess it would soon be eclipsed by that disastrous Who concert in Cincinnati. Folks took their rock'n'roll seriously back then, eh?

Yeah, the Cinnci riot as very BAD!

The Zep riot started when the rain started... the band (and crew) shut everything off and left the stage. The hands started tarping the equipment. I don't blame them for doing that. Tampa's torrential summer thunderstorms can be dangerous.

Unfortunately, the rain kept on and an announcement was made that the concert was to be cancelled due to the bad weather. That's when ALL HELL broke lose. The fans behaved badly, unfortunately... and it got out of hand quickly.

NOTE: For many years after that (about 8-10 years) concerts were banned in the old Tampa Stadium. They started up again in the mid 80s, but they learned lessons... Security was very much increased.

I remember one of the first concerts there after the hiatus was David Bowie's Glass Spider Tour. My then lady-friend and I enjoyed it immensely while sitting out on my front porch. :)
