need of navigation buttons under /photos/ in full frame view

if we load an image under /photos/ in full frame view it would be so cool if we would have navigation buttons so navigate to the next / previous image like we have under /gallery/

is there a way to implement that ?

/cloud
/gallery/
and /photos/

if we want to navigate a photo folder /gallery/ is the best but under /photos/ there are other nice options... best would be to have navigation buttons under /photos/ in full frame view as well...

We have three ways to do so
over

/cloud
/gallery/
and /photos/

best might be over /photos/ but navigation to next / previous image is not really nice and convenient - it is much nicer to have under /gallery/

Would be great if this could be implement also under /photos/

so that is true if you want to view images

but if you also want to offer images for download we have to link to the /cloud folder...

that is what i meant by "mess"... the UI is spited up to tree different interfaces and URLs :-(

Honestly at some point i was thinking about removing the photos module completely. Most actions are much more convenient when using the Files app, for viewing it is much more convenient to use the Gallery app.

/photos does not support preloading of images, hence simple navigation like in gallery is not possible at the moment...

@Mario Vavti Photos is nice for extra image-uploading features. For example, that text field for automatically generated image upload announcement posts could be repurposed for alt-texts like on (streams).

@Mario Vavti I use Hubzilla quite extensively for photos, and have a separate channel where I put up photos to share with the family. Thousands of photos all together. Usually I do the uploading either through WebDav or through the files module. For viewing the photos I find the Photos module to be more useful than the Gallery module because you get a nested file list and it's easier to choose the folder needed. Ideally I think there would be a single module with the best attributes of the two modules, as well as a thumbnail strip at the bottom or side. I would like to see titles, and have the ability to sort by tags, with a visible tag list. (One can dream and imagine also display of meta-data). There are a number of successful photo-dedicated software sites like newcomer Ente and veteran ones like Piwigo from which one could take inspiration for an improved photo module.

@Mario Vavti I don't think removing the photo module is a good idea. On the other hand, fusing the photo and gallery modules would probably be a better idea.

Would it be possible, in the multimedia sphere :
- a video module
- integration of peertube videos and improved monitoring of peertube accounts, which currently appear in the forums

Peertube channels are of type Group. This is the type fedi uses for forums/groups. There is not much we can do about.

When a Y*** video is shared, you can view it in the post. It would be great to make this possible with Peertube videos and more logical between fediverse tools.

A better way of navigating at least. Looking at Google photos and Immiche, I see that the middle section has the photos arranged chronologically, with dates above each set, and in the left margin they have categories like Albums, Favorites, Places, People. Clicking on an album shows thumbnails, which are clickable. Clicking on the thumbnail gives a photo that fills the screen. There, it is possible to click on an "info" button that provides various information on the photo. Piwigo works a little differently, and I haven't found it to be as attractive, but from the point of view of navigation it is quite good. Ideally the two are interlinked so you can go back and forth. That way you have two ways to view your photos, as a file list or in a gallery.

Stolz means (is he promoting the current situation, or a hypothetical linking between the Gallery and Photos modules?), but one of the things to mention is that in using the Gallery module, there does not seem to be a way to provide a link to send someone to view a specific album. Clicking on a folder in the Gallery view gives only an image link. If we want to provide someone with a link to view a set of photos, the Photos module is the only option - if I've understood things correctly.

@hosh it is actually possible to share a gallery album with some photos in the preview and a link to the album gallery. I just tried and the sharing still works while the link does not work anymore as expected. Will look into it...

But I was thinking of when I'd want to send just an independent link, say, to family members who are not on hubzilla or watching the hubzilla timeline - as one might send a Google photo album link. As things are, I can only send them a link that would take them to the photos module, where all the photos in that folder appear as Thumbnails. If they click on a specific photo, this version will also be fairly small, rather than filling the whole screen. (They can click one more time to get a larger view). From viewing a single photo , if they want to see the other photos in the set, their only option will be to use the forward or back buttons. To navigate back to see the whole folder with the thumbnail views, their only option is to use the browser's back button. It would be nice if there was, say, an upward pointing arrow, to return them to the whole folder.

this does only work as post to /channel

If we want to share a gallery album just as a link to friends who do not use HZ Channels it would be nice to have the option to have such a gallery album link without the need ot first creat a /channel post

intuitively, I would expect to go to the gallery page, right click on the thumbnail of the album and obtain a link to copy. (But instead we get an image link). Is that what we are talking about?

I depend on K&T for the updates, but can see that it works on @Mario Vavti 's development hub. Just that it isn't clear clear how to provide such a link without constructing it "by hand".

I can only confirm @hosh 's observation. I also can't get a link to the album using on-board tools on my hub (with a patch). To share, I have to ‘build’ it myself (which isn't a big problem now).

Having just posted a bunch of pictures, I discover that in the photo album, if i zoom, the proportion of the image gets messed up. If I look at them via gallery, I can't zoom.

@Marshall Sutherland i think i have addressed the rotation/proportion issue here: https://framagit.org/hubzilla/core/-/commit/d1f54507f6c742003082b3e858f67cda3722670a (dev branch).

The gallery library recommends to use scaled image sizes for performance reasons. So that is what we do. Hence on large screens you do not see the option to scale the image because it is already at its highest scale. Hoverver, there is a download link for the original size in the gllery app.
