Welcome to #
checkin
for Monday, May 13, 2024!
Good evening/afternoon/morning everyone and welcome to today's #
checkin
. I had the checkin in mind a bit earlier today, but then totally forgot it as I was distracted. So better late then never! Today was still a sunny day, although windy. Yesterday evening, when I was baking bread, an earlier discussion came to my mind about unusual household/kitchen items.
What's a maybe unusual gadget in your household that you don't want to miss that just makes everything easier?
My favorite kitchen tool is this one: Basic, but totally effective: Can you guess it's purpose?
Greetings… Ahoj! Aloha! Bom dia! Bonjour! Bună! Ciao! G’day! Geia sas! Günaydın, صباح الخير , בוקר טוב 你好! Håfa Adai! Hi! Hei! Hello! Hallo! Hei! Hola! Howdy! Halō! Kamusta! Kia Orana! Kon’nichiwa! Mabuhay! Moi! Namaste! Ni Hao! Neih hou! Pagi! Saluton! Sawasdee! Shwmae! Γειάσας! Talofa! Terve!😄

I don't have anything unusual (maybe the pickle picker), but I do use some things in unusual ways.
Q tips to clean the coffee grinder. Toothbrush and skewers for pots.
And the bottle opener to release the vacuum seal on jars.
I'm guessing the object you are showing is an egg separator.

This one is for processing natural eggs. You can separate the yellow part from the other. This is not needed in any kitchen - except you have a problem to separate that parts of eggs in more simple ways...

Rain, rain, rain... clear through for the next 36 hours. I may need a boat.
Useful thing? OMG this:

It's an egg separator, but I usually just use my hands.
(Tip: Did you drop a bit of shell in your bowl? Use a larger piece of shell to scoop it out: shell is attracted to shell.)
Here's a neat device:

I showed my knife grip when you showed your egg separator. We've had this forever and it's really handy…

I have one of these:
http://www.oregonlam.com/CR2MM_2mm_3_32_Corner_Rounder_Cutter_Punch.html
I use it to trim the corners of cardboard counters for board games, which makes them easier to manipulate and more attractive. How's that for a niche hobby item? 🙂

The tea infuser with the little black cat on the end is my kitchen bestie. It looks like archaeological bronze at this point from the tannins.
Mild and half sunny in Melbourne, will be coolish in Yea where I'm headed.

Somewhere in the mountains of stuff I haven't seen for 2 years, there is a proper conical potato ricer with a pestle(?). Obviously it's not something I can't live without 😂 but it's the best kitchen oddity I can come up with. I'll also be happy to find our apple corer and slicer... although I'm not sure Mr. Stranger will ever be up to making fried apples again 😢
oh I also own a manual meat slicer (like the electric ones delis have), but have not used it yet
